Example of Play.

What follows is an example of play. Boxed text represents the IC text on the wiki page.

The Introduction

The GM starts the page by writing an introduction:

The Heroes open the huge double doors into a large room, and are almost knocked down by an odor of rot that permeates this place. With the torchlight most can only see halfway into the room which is filled with mouldering sacks of grain and sides of rotted beef.

The party has a Dwarf, Archibald, with darkvision so the GM would send a Private Message (PM) to let Archie's player know what Archie sees:

TO: ARCHIESPLAYER
FROM: GM
SUBJECT: Darkvision

With Archie's darkvision he can see more of the same, except that in to nortwest corner there is a mortaly wounded, unconscious gnoll. On the north wall is another double door exactly opposite this one. it is closed and barred with a large, flat iron bar.

The Character Poses

Now the Players take turns describing their actions on the Wiki page, called posing, and submitting rolls and other OOC actions to the GM.

Beatrice

Beatrice is the party's Human rogue. Her Player wants to have Bea search the entryway of the room before entering.
First Bea's Player would Pose her characters actions

Stepping from behind Archie, Beatrice begins scrutinizing and searching the door frame, the floor, and all around the entryway before allowing any of her friends into the room.

Bea's player wishes to search for traps. To notify the GM that she needs a search roll she chose to BOLD the word 'search' in her pose. The GM will look up her search bonus, generate the roll, and send her the result in a PM.

TO: BEASPLAYER
FROM: GM
SUBJECT: Search Roll

Bea finds a thin silk line that spans across the bottom of the door. it leads up along the back of the jamb and to the ceiling where it is connected to an armature that holds a huge spiked battering ram. The slightest tug on that string and the battering ram swings and takes out anyone standing in the 10' wide doorway (currently Bea and Archie).

Calvert

Calvert is the party's human Ranger. Cal's Player wants Cal to listen for anything that might be amiss. His player chooses to hold his pose untill after he gets more IC info, and because listening is a relatively instantaneous action. Instead Cal's player just makes a post on the discussion board:

Listen Check

Cal would like to make a listen check.

This lets the GM and his fellow players know that he will be posing soon. Also Cal's player prefers to feel like he has a hand in the luck of his rolls, so he also sends a PM to the GM with the dice roll entered in the format that the GM uses in the dice rolling software.

SUBJECT: Listen Check

The GM copies and pastes Cal's roll into his terminal, generates the roll and sends Cal a PM with the result.

TO: CALSPLAYER
FROM: GM
SUBJECT: RE: Listen Check

Cal hears faint, ragged breathing from the northwest corner of the room.

Cal's player then poses:

"Hold friends. I hear something breathing in there," Cal whispers taking a step forward to be behind the Dwarf and the Rogue.

Archibald

Archibald is, of course, a Dwarf, and is the party's Cleric/Fighter. Archie's Player knows that a Gnoll lies wounded in that corner thanks to his Darkvision, so he just poses.

"Eye laddie!" Archie turns to Cal and grins, "But it's a worthless Gnoll, an' he don't look like he's doin' ta good. Took one hell of a beating, that one.

Since Cal was whispering it is reasonable to assume that Archie was too, but the GM would want clarification. He would make a post on the discussion board:

To Whisper or Not to Whisper…*

Did Archie whisper, or talk normally that last pose?

Archie's player responds with:

RE: To Whisper or Not to Whisper…*

What do you think? When has Archie ever opted for subtlety? He said it right out loud, besides the gnoll is nearly dead!

GM Edit and Response.

Now, the GM know that there is an Otyugh behind the barred doors, and also now that everyone has had a chance to react to the introduction he will do another edit to condense the player actions into a more concise form and readble form (editing for Flow), to correct any spelling, grammatical or punctuation errors (edit for Content), and to correct any bold or italics used, and add or remove any page formatting that is needed (edit for format). Then he writes a response to the in character actions. what follows is the Wiki page for the scene as it would appear after all of the above had taken place.

The Heroes open the huge double doors into a large room, and are almost knocked down by an odor of rot that permeates this place. With the torchlight most can only see halfway into the room which is filled with mouldering sacks of grain and sides of rotted beef.
Stepping from behind Archie, Beatrice begins scrutinizing and searching the door frame, the floor, and all around the entryway before allowing any of her friends into the room. Cal also steps forward to stand behind the other two and strains his ears trying to hear into the stillness of the room.
"Hold friends. I hear something breathing in there," Cal whispers.
"Eye laddie!" Archie turns to Cal and grins, "But it's a worthless Gnoll, an' he don't look like he's doin' ta good. Took one hell of a bea —"
Suddenly, upon hearing the sound of Archie's voice, something nearby throws itself into what sounds like another door in this room. Then again, a sickening, wet sounding thud resounds through the thick rotten air of the room. In response to the thuds the gnoll, apparently, regains consciousness and begins to alternate between screaming in abject terror, laughing maniacally, and coughing wetly. The cacophony is quite unsettling.
